PATH events

Dear PATH friends, colleagues and sympathizers,
The PATH '09 consensus workshop will take place in Ljubljana on 12 - 13 March, 2009.

Institute of Public Health
Trubarjeva c. 2
SI-1000 Ljubljana

The main goal is to kick-off PATH'09 with Country Coordinators and one hospital representative per country. This event is crucial as country coordinators and hospital representatives will get together to learn from each other, discuss the channels to facilitate national and international networking and initiate collaborations to share tasks and build synergies.

Numerous technical issues will also be tackled during the workshop: we will review the PATH' 09 indicators (with a focus on "wave 1" indicators) in order to assess their relevance to the respective settings; we will develop a common understanding of the terminology and we will highlight any shadow zone in indicator definition and data collection. We will also estimate the burden of data collection, and assess the potential of the performance indicators for international comparisons.

The hospital representatives are invited to carry out a reality check to their own context for indicator relevance and data collection. It is also an opportunity for them to establish direct contacts with other participating hospitals cross-borders. Because we want to have a participative "hands-on" meeting, we cannot accommodate too many participants. Therefore, we would like to suggest that country coordinators invite one hospital representative to accompany them. It is preferable if the hospitals represent university hospitals, since the first sub-network to be created will be composed of university hospitals.

The workshop is co-organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the PATH International Secretariat, with great local support from the WHO Country Office in Slovenia, Ministry of Health of Republic of Slovenia as well as the Institute of Public Health, which is the venue for the PATH workshop.

There is no participation fee, yet you are expected to cover your travel and accommodation. To facilitate this, the WHO CO Slovenia has made a block reservation, at a special rate at Hotel Central, which is a walking distance to the venue. The price per single room is 112,21 Euro, including tourist tax. While registering for the meeting, please copy the WHO Country Office, Slovenia ( ), so that they could follow up on rooms, flights/transfers, and visas.
